Video B-Roll available via CNW - AECL Chief Nuclear Officer provides NRU operations and training updates

CHALK RIVER, ON, Nov. 4 /CNW/ - The following B-Roll is available by Broadcast On-Demand web download:

STORY SUMMARY: In accordance with Atomic Energy of Canada Limited's (AECL) commitment to providing regular communications updates on the status of the National Research Universal (NRU) Reactor Return to Service Plan, AECL releases the following videos outlining activities underway at Chalk River Laboratories.

Video One: AECL's Chief Nuclear Officer, Bill Pilkington, provides an overview of the Operations Strategy developed at Chalk River Laboratories to develop and perform the NRU repair . He explains the fact that within a nuclear facility, there is no room for trial and error, so any processes developed are driven down to the greatest level of detail. Pilkington gives viewers the opportunity to see "the world's best experts" working on the NRU reactor vessel in order to ready it for the band weld repair technique.

Video Two: Building on the Operations Strategy, Tina Shorter, AECL's Manager Resourcing & Training, outlines the extent to which the organization is training its employees on the use of the repair tooling. Teams of employees, who will be deployed on a 24 hour, 7 day rotation, must learn to operate the tools remotely, 30 feet from the repair site, depending solely on cameras to guide the band weld application. Shorter explains how training and retraining is essential to ensure we are ready to succeed and ready to maximize the return to service schedule.
