Toronto 2015 delegation hard at work in Guadalajara
GUADALAJARA, Mexico, Nov. 4 /CNW/ - The Toronto 2015 Pan/Parapan Am Games Bid delegation is busy with a full schedule of events on this the first day of the Pan American Sports Organization (PASO) Congress in Guadalajara.
The team is busy rehearsing the Toronto presentation, participating in the PASO Congress and meeting with delegates, among other activities.
Bid officials are also participating in a packed schedule of PASO General Assembly events, including reports by the organizing committees of the Pan American Games Guadalajara 2011 and the Vancouver, London, Sochi and Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games.
"The whole team is working very hard, and will continue to do so right up until the final decision on Friday," said Toronto 2015 Bid Chair, the Hon. David Peterson.
The Toronto 2015 delegation continues to arrive in Guadalajara today, including Premier Dalton McGuinty and Toronto Mayor David Miller, who both arrive later this evening. Toronto's delegation also includes Canadian Olympic Committee executives, business and community representatives and seven great Canadian athletes: Charmaine Crooks (athletics), Curt Harnett (cycling), Alexandra Orlando (rhythmic gymnastics), Carlo Qualtrough (swimming), Victoria Winter (dressage), Trevino Betty (athletics) and Kristan Burley (gymnastics).
The Pan Am Games are a major international multi-sport event, held every four years for athletes of the 42 PASO member nations. The Pan American Games consists of all Summer Olympic sports, plus other non-Olympic events, and serve as an Olympic-qualifier for a number of participating sports. The last edition of the games was held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in July 2007 and the next is for Guadalajara, Mexico in October 2011.
