Progressive Insurance Automotive X PRIZE in the Cross-hairs of a new Canadian Ultra High-Efficiency Transportation & Energy Engineering company - EnerMotion Inc.

CALEDON, ON, Nov. 6 /CNW/ - A consortium of engineers, scientists,
technicians, academics, media and business professionals have formed
EnerMotion Inc., a Systems Integration and Engineering firm specializing in
high efficiency hybrid transportation applications and sustainable energy
solutions. To showcase EnerMotion's technological innovation and expertise,
EnerMotion is pursuing the international multi-million dollar Progressive
Insurance Automotive X PRIZE competition that requires competing teams to
design and develop an automobile capable of 100 miles-per-gallon (2.543 litres
per 100 km), which generates ultra-low emissions, delivers real-world creature
comforts and performance, offers usable interior and cargo space, meets all
applicable safety standards for 2010, and which is capable of being
mass-produced at an affordable price.
"The principals behind EnerMotion represent a broad spectrum of
knowledge, experience and creativity which is necessary to win this type of
'game-changing' competition," said Jack MacDonnell, CEO and President of the
company. MacDonnell was recently creator, producer and co-host of the popular
"TUNER TRANSFORMATION" television series on Fox's Speed Channel for 3 years,
and is a long-time motorsport participant, after-market product development
specialist and sales & marketing executive.
"We plan to leverage EnerMotion's expertise in ultra high efficient
transportation and alternative energy solutions and services to assist
industry, end users and the general public in optimizing existing technologies
and new innovations that we and other experts are developing for the very near
future. Canada is already a leader in many aspects of advanced vehicle
engineering," added MacDonnell, "and we plan to promote that leadership on a
number of critical levels for North America and around the world."
The Progressive Insurance Automotive X PRIZE competition is a project of
the X PRIZE Foundation, organizer of the widely successful Ansari X PRIZE in
2004, won by Burt Rutan and his business partner Paul Allen, co-founder of
Microsoft, for building and launching a rocket ship into sub-orbit with the
requirement to reuse the spaceship within 2 weeks.
Dr. Peter H. Diamandis, Chairman & CEO of the X PRIZE foundation,
comments on the importance of the Auto X PRIZE competition, "We are at a
pivotal moment in time when promising new technologies, growing consumer
demand, and global politics driven by fossil fuel issues and environmental
forces make it ripe for a radical breakthrough in the cars we drive."
EnerMotion's entry will achieve new levels of extreme fuel efficiency and
emission reduction while utilizing cost effective manufacturing techniques and
materials.
"Without giving away too many details of our strategy," added MacDonnell,
"our engineering plan is to optimize some existing technology while
integrating a number of innovations we're developing to achieve objectives of
the competition. Aerodynamic improvements, weight reduction, engine efficiency
gains and new accessory developments are among the many planned applications
that will be showcased in our vehicle, aptly named the 'XP100'."
MacDonnell further explains; "EnerMotion is advancing quickly. We have an
incredibly talented team that is further enhanced by key partnerships with
organizations such as Autodesk Canada for advanced design software, Lynch
Technologies for engineering support, Innovative Testing Solutions for testing
and validation, academics from St. Lawrence College, Queens University, McGill
University, and other strategic industry, government and technology leaders.
We're dedicated to advancing innovation in Canada and providing real-world
transportation and energy options for society while we protect the environment
- the future is counting on all of us to do our part now, and EnerMotion is
proud to be leading the change."
