Spinach for the Skin

NIVEA'S Breakthrough Skincare Line Reinforces the Importance of Folic
    Acid

TORONTO, May 6 /CNW/ - Folic acid, a vitamin that is essential for
healthy cell reproduction, is the latest breakthrough in skin care. Well known
as a crucial component of an expectant mother's diet, it is found naturally in
green, leafy vegetables and is one of the key components that aids cell
reproduction in the body. Folic acid is a water-soluble B vitamin that plays a
significant role in DNA synthesis, reproduction and repair. It also
contributes to healthy cell division - especially in the skin. For the first
time in skin care history, NIVEA has developed breakthrough technology that
has allowed the company to stabilize folic acid. NIVEA's DNAge line is
comprised of six products, which work to replenish the skin cells with folic
acid and creatine (which stores energy for cells to use), for younger, firmer
looking skin.
Folic acid also works to metabolize proteins to support blood cell
production and promote proper nerve functioning. It helps to prevent anaemia,
osteoporosis-related bone fractures and even Alzheimer's disease. It is
especially important for pregnant women as it promotes spinal and brain
development in babies.
Many foods are high in folic acid. Typically rich green coloured
vegetables such as romaine lettuce, spinach, parsley, peas, broccoli, and
asparagus contain high amounts of folic acid. Oranges, avocado, beets, lentils
and liver are also foods that are rich with folic acid. These foods will
increase folic acid intake, however they never reach necessary skin cells, as
they are absorbed too quickly by the body.
Daily, unavoidable harmful effects such as exposure to heat, cold and
sunlight take a toll on skin. This can lead to skin damage and even cancer. As
skin ages it becomes thinner and even more susceptible to damage because of
the reduction of natural elasticity. Folic acid works to increase the blood
flow and restore elasticity, thus protecting the skin. The human body cannot
create folic acid on its own, but with a proper diet and the use of NIVEA
DNAge, skin cells can be protected from external environmental factors while
promoting healthy skin cell regeneration.
