"Things in our platform have been priced out"
Conservative candidate comes clean on costing... why won't John Tory?
CORNWALL, ON, July 12 /CNW/ - Conservative Leader John Tory has secretly
told his candidates that he has costed their 244 promise platform. But he
still won't tell Ontario voters what he would cut to pay for those promises.
Today Conservative candidate Chris Savard let it slip that "things in our
platform have been priced out", but Tory has steadfastly refused to release
costing details of his election platform.
"We don't know if Tory made it up to keep his candidates happy, or if
there is an actual secret financial report," said Liberal MPP and Deputy
Premier George Smitherman. "But clearly he is either misleading his candidates
or the public."
When revealing his uncosted platform of 244 promises, Conservative Leader
John Tory promised a detailed costing after the Auditor General signed off on
the government's fiscal outlook.
The Auditor reported 25 days ago but the Conservatives are still hiding
their numbers. Just like they hid a $5.6 billion deficit in the last election.
This raises questions for John Tory:
Why is he still hiding his numbers 25 days after his deadline?
Is it because he knows they don't add up?
Is it because he knows he can't add money to health care while cutting
$2.9 Billion from the health budget?
Is it because he knows he can't add money to public schools while
diverting $500 million to private religious schools?
If the Conservatives can't come clean on the cost of their promises...
what else are they hiding?
