TELUS Big Winner at CA's Corporate Reporting Awards
TORONTO, Dec. 5 /CNW/ - TELUS Corporation captured top honours at the
2007 Corporate Reporting Awards (CRA) presented by Canada's Chartered
Accountants.
TELUS earned top scores for, financial reporting, electronic disclosure,
corporate governance disclosure and sustainable development reporting to win
the Overall Award of Excellence. TELUS also won separate Awards of Excellence
in the Communications & Media industry sector, sustainable development
reporting, corporate governance disclosure and an Honourable Mention for
Excellence in Financial Reporting.
The Awards program has recognized excellence in financial and corporate
reporting in Canada for more than fifty years. The Awards are presented
annually by Canada's Chartered Accountants and reflect the CA profession's
commitment to enhancing the quality of financial reporting in Canada. They
showcase best practices in Financial Reporting, Electronic Disclosure,
Corporate Governance Disclosure and Sustainable Development Reporting.
Twenty-one awards were presented this year from among a total of 80
participants.
"We applaud all of the entrants who participated in these awards. It is
no small task to produce a corporate report that is relevant, clear and
readily understood by users in today's environment of complex rules and
regulations," said Kevin Dancey, FCA, President and CEO of the CICA. "It is
important that we draw attention to and acknowledge excellent examples of
corporate reporting. We all recognize that sound corporate reporting will
enhance the credibility of a company."
Senior representatives were present at the luncheon today to receive
their awards.
"At a time when investor expectations around governance and reporting
have never been greater, it is truly an honour to have the CICA present us
with these awards," said Robert McFarlane, TELUS Executive Vice President and
Chief Financial Officer. "At TELUS, we are firmly committed to full and fair
financial disclosure and best practices in corporate governance, so to receive
formal recognition for our team's efforts is truly gratifying."
New additions to the CICA's Corporate Reporting Awards program this year
are the Awards of Excellence for federal Crown corporations. Formerly
administered by the Auditor General's office, these awards recognize exemplary
achievement in annual reporting among federal Crown corporations. The
expansion of the Awards to include the public sector builds upon the CICA's
mandate to protect the public and increase the efficiency of Canada's capital
markets by developing guidelines that enhance corporate reporting processes.
This year's winner in the Large Crown Corporation category is the
Business Development Bank of Canada, with Telefilm Canada taking the Small
Crown Corporation honours.
Other industry winners include Nexen Inc., presented with the TSX Award
of Excellence in Electronic Disclosure and BMO Financial Group, which earned
the Award of Excellence in Financial Reporting. A full list of winners appears
